A forum to discuss the withdrawal of troops from Iraq, the decline of petroleum gas supplies, the pace of global warming and gaps between the rich and poor nations will take place tonight at First United Methodist Church, 1376 Olive St., in Eugene.
Michael Carrigan, an organizer for the Progressive Responses program of Community Alliance of Lane County, said one purpose of the forum “is to lead a discussion about how we can effectively pressure our government to withdraw troops from Iraq.”
Alan Siporin, award-winning writer, commentator and former freelance reporter for National Public Radio will moderate the forum. Siporin is the current host and producer of “Critical Mass”, the award-winning program on Eugene’s KLCC 89.7 radio station. He is also the author of “Fire’s Edge,” a novel about hate crimes in the Pacific Northwest.
A representative from the office of Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., is also scheduled to speak.
Time is scheduled after the event for comments and questions.
The event will begin at 7 p.m.
