The University has been a place of great growth and development for me. With graduation coming up, I am slowly realizing how much I am going to miss at this University. After four years here, I feel like I know the place better than my own backyard. I have made the best friends of my life here. The staff and administrators that I have had the privilege of meeting and working with have all helped me in manners that are hard to quantify. Most importantly, the faculty members that I have been under the tutelage of have shown me new ways to understand and interact with the world. Every professor in my major and minor programs has impacted me positively. They have each tinkered with the way I think and see the world a little bit.
I have long stood by the adage that a teacher makes or breaks a class. The topic of a course could be fascinating but horrible once coupled with an ineffective instructor. Similarly, boring courses can just as easily by propped up with the right teacher.
I hope some of my fellow graduating seniors echo this sentiment. If so, thank a professor that made an impact on your college experience. Thank them for seeing the potential within you, for helping you realize that potential, and for inspiring you to learn. Thank a professor for teaching us so that we may, in some way, consider ourselves intellectual, educated, and ready to surmount the challenges that await us in the world.
