Several student groups are organizing the Against Patriarchy conference, a chance for people to discuss the elimination of male privilege, domination and sexism.
The ASUO Women’s Center, Survival Center, The Student Insurgent and LGBTQA are hosting the event Friday through Sunday at the University to provide the community a forum for discussing issues such as what it means to be a woman, man or somewhere between the sexes in patriarchal cultures.
Workshops and presentations will explain the definition of patriarchy and how organizers think it is interlocked with white supremacy, colonialism and anti-Semitism.
Poet Eli Clare, peace activist Diana Courvant and Portland State University Assistant Professor Kimberly Springer will provide the opening address Friday at 7 p.m. in 150 Columbia.
Performances will be held in the EMU Fishbowl on Friday and Sunday nights and in the EMU Fir Room on Saturday night.
Workshops and presentations will be held in the Education Building, Columbia Hall and the EMU throughout the weekend.
