Wheeling around the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex on a scooter that he says gets “40 miles per gallon” with his injured foot propped up on a padded base, Hroniss Grasu talked to the media for the first time since leaving Oregon’s game against Utah two weeks ago. Currently his standing is day-to-day, but Grasu has been ruled out of the Ducks’ senior day game against Colorado this Saturday.
A mainstay on the offensive line, Grasu adds to the list of linemen injured this season and his absence further displays the type of turnover the unit has experienced on a weekly basis. Grasu discussed his injury, the prospect of Doug Brenner starting this week at center and his memories of Autzen after practice Tuesday.
Take us through your injury prognosis?
Day to day, honestly. I’m waiting for what the doctor is telling me to do. Just going in and seeing what they have me do every day and trying to get back as soon as I can.
What was the procedure?
Just a minor procedure, nothing crazy. One thing I could say is I will be back, but the thing is when.
How difficult is it for you with the fact that you are a senior?
This season is not over for me and its not over for the team. You can count me out for this game, but I’m doing whatever I can to get back as soon as I can. But not being able to play on senior night, I had a lot of great memories in Autzen and this Saturday will still be another great memory for me.
How’s Doug Brenner doing?
He’s doing a great job. The entire line is stepping up big time this week, communication wise. Hamani’s doing a great job and Jake Fisher, you know all of them. Even when I wasn’t in there, they all did a great job communicating so nothing’s really changed.
Can you take us through the play where you got injured?
I was just trying to make a block and my cleat got caught in the turf, that’s all that happened. It’s unfortunate but it’s this sport. I’ve been lucky to (play) my career with nothing really serious and this isn’t something serious. I’ll be back as soon as I can.
