Woman shot in Eugene apartment complex
An unnamed 32-year-old woman was shot in an apartment in the 1200 block of West Sixth Avenue last night. According to The Register-Guard, shots were fired at 6:41 p.m. inside the complex before the woman managed to move to the parking lot. She was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield, but the severity of her injuries is currently unavailable.
Police are in the process of developing suspect information. Anyone with relevant information should call 541-682-5111.
Council ponders budget gap
In light of a budget gap that has doubled since May (a projected $3 million revenue gap has become $6 million), the Eugene City Council will begin discussing various ways to raise revenue at the Dec. 10 meeting. This may include an increase in taxes to avoid alternatives such as shutting down a fire station or neighborhood pool, closing the library one day a week and cutting neighborhood service programs, according to The Register-Guard.
In an unrelated issue concerning tax cuts, the council approved a tax exemption for a low-income apartment complex on River Road by a 6-1 vote.
HomeSource under fire for Sudbury contract
HomeSource Family Charter School’s executive director Paula Praus-Williamson is being admonished by her own board for entering into an agreement without the approval of the school’s sponsor, the Bethel district. Earlier this month, HomeSource signed a contract with the newly opened Eugene Sudbury School that grants Sudbury $7,000 a month to teach 22 students registered at HomeSource.
Board members will evaluate Praus-Williamson in a meeting at 7 p.m. tonight. According to The Register-Guard, the school will be able to operate while it awaits a hearing on its appeal.
Springfield City Council extends and caps fee reduction program
At a work session held Monday night, the Springfield City Council approved continuing the 50 percent fee reduction program that applies to residential and small commercial construction to be done the first six months of 2013. The council hopes this will encourage new construction, according to The Register-Guard.
The exception to this extension is that the program will immediately close if the the cumulative amount of the waivers is higher than $500,000 before the end of the allotted six months.
