Take a Minute is a daily post that will catch you up internet happenings on campus and around the world.
My hangover from yesterday’s internet blackout wasn’t helped by the brutal trek to Agate Hall this morning. Good news is the shutdown of sites like Wikipedia and Reddit may have worked as at least 10 senators withdrew their support for SOPA. I did learn a couple things on Twitter while slogging through my eight o’clock class. First of all, and most importantly, LaMichael James starts his day with a nutritional Toaster Strudel.
Up early in the morn eating breakfast of champions (toaster strudels) don’t judge me.I love my ducks!!!

I’ve always had trouble rationing my frosting for those things, but maybe a pro like LaMike can give me some lessons. Less shocking than LaMichael’s declaration is Rick Perry finally pulling out of the presidential race.

I’m not embedding one of Perry’s own tweets because his profile picture on Twitter creeps me out. This also gives me an opportunity to link to Perry’s ridiculous campaign ad. Go ahead and grace that with a couple more dislikes for me. Any video on YouTube that doesn’t allow commenting immediately loses any credibility with me. Perry’s ad spawned plenty of parodies, including this gem:
On the other end of the campaign ad spectrum, Stephen Colbert’s super PAC is running attack ads on … Stephen Colbert. A bold strategy to say the least.
Enough of the politics. Let’s all publicly shame Francesco Schettino, captain of the cruise ship Costa Concordia that capsized Jan. 13 off the coast of Italy. At least 11 people are dead after the incident and nearly two dozen are still missing. Schettino abandoned ship before all the passengers were accounted for, but says he didn’t mean to get in a lifeboat, he simply tripped into one. Right.
The award for most angst-filled tweet about Eugene’s weather today goes to @AlyStanton. Congrats!
I don’t remember the last day it didn’t rain. The 10 forecast says I won’t see one for a while either. #Eugene
