In the past, “Cheap Date” has at least tried to give you a romantic option for the minimum price possible.
Not this time, bub. This installment of “Cheap Date” is for those times when you want to take that special someone out but just don’t have the cash to take them out somewhere nice. This time is going to be a down-and-dirty, get-the-job-done “Cheap Date,” so keep reading even while you laugh. You’ll be glad you did.
First off, this date will have to take place on a Tuesday, which is not exactly the most romantic night of the week. However, Little Caesar’s does offer its $3 medium cheese or pepperoni pizza deal, carry-out, on Tuesdays. So, go to your nearest Little Caesar’s, pick up one or two of those babies, and take them over to your date’s house.
Or, if you’re feeling devious, get a pizza, stick it in the oven (turn it on warm), and invite your date over and say you “made it yourself.” Be advised, lying to your date, whether he or she’s someone new or your steady, is never a good way to begin or maintain a relationship.
Perhaps the best way to disguise the cheapness of the meal while ironically acknowledging it is to bring the pizza home, call your date over and dress up your kitchen table with a table cloth, fancy glasses, napkins, candles, etc. If you’re feeling like a big spender, splurge on a bottle of soda or a $5 bottle of wine to make the occasion special.
You may want to make the dinner a late one because after you’ve stuffed yourselves stupid, you’ll be heading over to the Bijou Theater on East 13th Avenue and Ferry Street. The Bijou shows a lot of foreign and art films, but the late-night shows are usually something you may have heard of, such as “Scary Movie” or “Galaxy Quest.” There are two showings a night, and they are CHEAP. On Tuesday nights, admission is $2.
However, late night showings don’t start until 11:20 p.m., so get a late start and have fun. If you’re lucky, your date won’t dump you for being such a cheapskate.
