Protesters gathered in front of the Eugene City Hall for the “March 4 America” rally on March 4 at 12 p.m.
The event was a part of the larger 50501 grassroots movement, which has protested President Donald Trump’s policies since the beginning of his second administration.
Participants at the rally stood on either side of East 4th Avenue while holding various signs that read, “Punch a Nazi,” “I will not go quietly back into the 50s!” and “Trans rights are human rights.”
Darmika Henshaw, a participant in the rally, spoke about disparities in the 2024 election between mail-in ballots and in-person ballots.
“It’s very obvious that an oligarchy will take over us all,” Henshaw said. “Here’s my tin foil hat pyramid, but it’s looking like there are some algorithms that are affecting the disenfranchised people, affecting the people who do vote, that there’s literally some kind of fix-in.”
Tony Borba, another participant, came to the rally holding a tie-dyed flag with a large peace sign. Borba said that while he normally doesn’t attend rallies, he was “struck by how egregious” the meeting between Trump and President Zelenskyy was handled.
“I wanted to come out and support Ukraine,” Borba said. “It’s a stain on us as a country and I don’t think President Trump and his cabinet represent most Americans.”
The rally ended at approximately 4 p.m.
