Earlier today, I was thinking about the odd
juxtaposition of old and new that permeates campus.
Yes, every town has this — at least a hint of this
stark contrast. But it seems especially prominent
here: 100-year-old buildings linked up to hyperspeed
Internet connections, ancient halls being added onto
with cranes dwarfing even the tallest trees. Yes, this
is crazy and beautiful and confusing all at the same
time.
I took photographs in a haunted cemetery that has
to be at least several decades old … captured light
and stone on fragmented silver.
I waited for the bus — through the streaky,
rain-frosted plexiglass, I watched the same man pace
back and forth, back and forth 20 times with the same
folded umbrella, looking just as intent on his
destination as he did the first 10 times he passed. He
combed his hair.
It’s rain (ahhh). It’s dark. I am alone. I’m happy.
I’m sad.
