On Monday morning, five-star recruit Elijah Rushing announced his commitment to the University of Oregon, a sharp reversal for the Arizona native who initially committed to the Arizona Wildcats last summer. Rushing, an edge rusher at Salpointe Catholic High School (Atlanta Falcons rookie Bijan Robinson’s alma mater), becomes the Ducks’ 24th recruit of the 2024 class.
Oregon’s newest commit comes in at 6’6 and 251 pounds, and joined the program after declining offers from Arizona, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Colorado, Michigan and UCLA amongst others. Rushing, who has 10.0 registered sacks and 39 tackles through nine games in 2023, is ranked as the No. 28 recruit nationally by 247Sports, and the No. 3 edge rusher.
After landing a single five-star recruit last year with Jurrion Dickey, Rushing is the second five-star recruit in this class after Aydin Breland committed earlier this month. This signals Oregon head coach Dan Lanning’s intent as the Ducks remain in the battle for College Football Playoff contention.
