The University’s College of Education announced Tuesday that it has appointed Michael Bullis to serve a two-year term as Dean, effective Sept. 1.
Bullis, who was previously interim dean, is also the director of the National Post-School Outcomes Center, an organization that monitors the progress of high school dropouts and disabled graduates in their transitions to later schooling or work, he said.
Bullis took over as interim dean in 2005 for former dean Martin Kaufman, who still works in the College of Education as the Distinguished University Professor in
Educational Leadership.
Bullis said he is honored to be given the opportunity to head an education program that ranks 12th in the country overall and 1st in research productivity.
“We have to decide how we’re going to maintain our excellence and improve,” Bullis said.
College of Education Communications Director Linda Mears said Bullis is a charismatic leader who will help different areas of the department to work closer together with his prior experience.
“He’s been a leading architect for crafting systems to allow the state agencies to work
together,” Mears said.
Bullis said he will continue to act as director of the NPSOC.
“I’ve always worked hard, but I’ve had to take that to a new level to keep both balls
balanced in the air,” he said.
Bullis is also a 1983 University alumnus, receiving his doctorate in special education and rehabilitation.
