Tuesday night saw the release of 2023’s first College Football Playoff poll, which leaves Oregon (7-1, 4-1 Pac-12) at No. 6 ahead of its Week 10 matchup with unranked Cal (3-5, 1-4 Pac-12).
While the Ducks sit at No. 6 in the A.P. poll, it’ll be the CFP poll which ultimately determines their potential playoff eligibility. Oregon finished 15th in the final poll last year, in which no two-loss teams (but two one-loss teams) qualified for the playoff.
Oregon is favored to win each of its remaining games against Cal, USC, Arizona State and Oregon State en route to a potential appearance in the Pac-12 Championship, which could be just the boost it needs to boost up the rankings.
Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, Florida State and Washington currently sit above the Ducks in both the CFP and A.P. polls, but there’s potential for movement: Michigan and Ohio State are set for a Week 13 collision, while Georgia turns its attention to three straight ranked games against No. 12 Mizzou, No. 10 Ole Miss and No. 17 Tennessee and Washington eyes a potential rematch with the Ducks in the Pac-12 Championship.
